85th EIS: keeping our force in touch

    BILOXI, MS, UNITED STATES

    06.24.2021

Story by Senior Airman Spencer Tobler

    81st Training Wing

As the only active duty command, control, communication-computer engineering and installation squadron in the Air Force, the 85th Engineering Installation Squadron holds a huge responsibility.

Rapid deployments worldwide, steady training, and job knowledge is necessary for all Airmen to make sure their mission gets done well.

“We take on temporary duties and deployments to assist with new installations for communication capabilities of bases worldwide,” said Senior Airman David Miranda, 85th EIS cable and antenna installer. “We lay the groundwork to make the whole spectrum of communication possible.”

Since the squadron primarily works on TDYs and deployments, the Airmen spend duty hours training, preparing equipment, and performing additional duties while waiting for a job.

“We have to be ready at a moment’s notice,” said Miranda. “We know we need to consistently support the Air Force along with our sister services, no matter where in the world they’re located.”

Miranda said the 85th EIS supports the Air Force in obtaining and maintaining global vigilance, global reach and global power by laying the ground work for base communication abilities.

“We create the pathways to allow most communication services to happen,” said Miranda. “We have to keep doing good work to maintain our good reputation.”
