An American Red Cross bloodmobile was parked Friday near the Redstone Communities office for good reason.
Hunt Military Community held its first blood drive for residents and others with access to Redstone Arsenal. Twenty-seven people had signed up to give blood and walk-ins were also encouraged.
“We’re possibly going to do a second one later on this year in the fall or winter,” David Ugarte, resident service specialist for Hunt Military Community, said. “So far we’ve had a really good response from the people who live here or have access to the base. So we definitely want to do it again.”
Redstone resident Christa Ruschmeier was among the donors during the first hour of the drive held from 12:30-4:30 p.m. She moved here from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in 2009. Ruschmeier is a logistics management specialist at the Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space where she works with foreign military sales for the Patriot system.
