OTIS AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mass. -- The command chief master sergeant of the Air National Guard (ANG) visited the Airmen of the 102nd Intelligence Wing (IW) here, June 11, 2021. Chief Master Sgt. Maurice Williams met with members of various units on base and spoke to enlisted Airmen at a town hall during his visit.
“Chief Williams is one of our senior enlisted leaders so he speaks to us with a lot of relevance,” said Senior Master Sgt. Alexis Bouchard, 102nd IW’s Office of Inspector General superintendent.
The visit provided members of the 102nd IW an opportunity to share their questions and concerns about the ANG in an open dialogue with Williams.
“It doesn’t matter what mission we have. It will always come down to people, because they are our precious resource,” said Williams. “To be effective in anything we do, we must educate and empower those individuals to be successful.” Williams added that it’s important to understand the why of what one does in order to cultivate the seeds of success.
“I truly feel that his purpose here is to accelerate the Airmen’s development,” said Airman 1st Class Matthew Barbosa, an intelligence analyst with the 257th Intelligence Squadron, “His visit helps me realize that our wing is going in the right direction.
Williams also spoke separately with junior enlisted members regarding the development of leadership and the need to empower others within the wing.
“After meeting Chief Williams, I feel we can be astronomical,” said Staff Sgt. Simone Hill, a personalist assigned to the 102nd Force Support Squadron. “I realized that there are ways we can be more assertive in achieving our goals.”
Hills stated she admired the quality of approachable leadership Williams has, and hopes to develop that in herself.
At the end of the town hall, Williams reminded Airmen they should continue to invest in themselves and remember why they are a part of the ANG.
Williams assumed the role of command chief in 2020 and in this role, he serves more than 91,000 enlisted Airmen across the ANG.
