ROBINSON MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Arkansas – A resident of North Little Rock, Ark. and native of Prescott, Ark. assumes responsibility of the national training center located on Robinson Maneuver Training Center, North Little Rock, Ark., at a ceremony there on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Command Sgt. Maj. Marcus Evans takes responsibility of the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center, which is the National Guard’s center for advanced marksmanship training and competitive shooting programs.

Evans currently works full-time for The National Guard Professional Education Center. He enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard on Mar. 31, 1997 as an Infantryman with the 39th Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, Alpha Company out of Malvern, Ark. He served in many roles while with the 39th Infantry Brigade and deployed Oct. 1, 2003 and Oct. 1, 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On Jan. 19, 2019 Evans was selected as Command Sgt. Maj. for the 153rd Infantry Regiment before taking his current assignment at the Marksmanship Training Center, Camp Robinson, Ark.

The NGMTC is home to two advanced marksmanship schools: The Small Arms Weapons Expert course, and the Squad Designated Marksman course.

The Small Arms Weapons Expert course teaches students the foundational knowledge of all small arms used by the Army, as well as how to administer effective marksmanship training. The Squad Designated Marksman course teaches soldiers to accurately engage targets from the 300 to 600-yard range.

The NGMTC is also the proponent for the National Guard competitive marksmanship teams, known as the All Guard teams. The competitions program supplements marksmanship training through competition. The All Guard teams compete, nationally as well as internationally, as representatives of the National Guard. They also support multiple training clinics and small arms firing schools across the U.S.

July drill will be Evan’s first full weekend as the unit’s newest Command Sgt. Maj. as he replaces outgoing Command Sgt. Maj. Billy Ward.
