CAMP MINDEN, La. — The Louisiana Army National Guard broke ground during a special ceremony attended by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to mark the start of construction for the long-awaited Regional Training Institute at Camp Minden in Minden, La., Oct. 6.

"I am proud to be here to partake in this ground breaking," said Jindal. "Louisiana has one of the finest military organizations, and I am happy that we will continue to excel with the great training opportunities this facility will provide."

The phase one construction will provide the site infrastructure for all four phases. A two-story, 14,636 square foot billeting building and an 8,200 square foot education/administration building will be constructed. Also, a 6,430 square foot addition will be added to the Dining Facility currently under construction.

It will also provide the necessary administrative, educational, dining and billeting areas needed to plan, program and conduct training for the region.

"This project symbolizes what the Louisiana National Guard is all about," said Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, adjutant general for the LANG. "This facility will allow our organization to provide top-notch training to Guardsmen from all over the country."

The RTI will provide regionalized combat arms, leadership, military occupational specialty, and general studies training for the Army National Guard and will monitor and coordinate academic instruction, food and lodging for Soldiers.

The RTI Regiment will have a staffing strength of 97 personnel, and the new facilities will allow for a student load of around 8,000.

The building was designed in accordance with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Rating System. In an effort to minimize operating costs, this system will reduce the usage of water, gas and electrical resources. It will also allow for the utilization of energy-efficient lighting that will have less impact on the environment.
