SILVERDALE, Wash., - Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Northwest awarded a $54.2 million contract May 25 to construct two above ground multi-product fuel storage tanks at Defense Fuel Supply Point, Manchester.

The construction is the first of a multi-phased project.

“I am extremely proud of our Systems Command team and their efforts to award, ahead of schedule, one of largest Military Construction projects for NAVFAC Northwest this fiscal year,” said Commanding Officer Capt. Ben Miller. “Once completed, the project will improve fuel tank infrastructure to meet Department of Defense and Navy fuel storage and distribution requirements in a cost-effective manner, while reducing environmental risk by transitioning from underground to aboveground storage tanks.”

Each tank will be able to hold 125,000 barrels of fuel. This contract award also includes secondary containment with remote impoundment and pipelines to connect to the marine diesel fuel and naval jet fuel piping system.

The $54,294,000 contract was awarded Garco Construction Co of Spokane. Work will start in summer 2021 and is expected to be complete in early 2024.
