During the spring months of 2021, several Civil Engineer Airmen took it upon themselves to improve Air Base 201. They saw that Airmen had no proper facilities to run, so they built themselves a track. These Airmen wanted to leave their mark on Air Base 201.
Construction of the running track was a huge upbringing.
“The mindset behind the running track at Air Base 201 is what makes the 409th AES Airmen so great,” said Chief Master Sergeant Stuart Allison, 55 Logistics Readiness Squadron. “Our Airmen in the 409th soar to new levels of performance.”
It took 12 people about two weeks to complete the project. They mixed a crude concrete formula, a mixture of sand and gravel, to create the track.
Regular maintenance must be done to keep it operational. This includes rolling it out with ride-on and hand rollers. They do this every few days to ensure the track doesn’t crumble and fall apart.
“Our CE Airmen are innovative and flexible,” said Chief Allison. “We get after it. We always find a great solution to any problem.”
