Soldiers and Civilians of the U.S. Army Reserve Legal Command observed Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month on Sunday, May 16 as part of their May Battle Assembly at the unit’s Reserve Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Mrs. Virginia Crutchfield, an IT Specialist at the Command, spoke about the importance of the observance and contributions Asian American Pacific Islanders have made to the unit, Army and the United States.
Spc. Kinion Carroll, a soldier assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, told about his Hawaiian heritage and the significance of the Fire Knife before lighting it and performing a traditional dance.
The observance concluded with a traditional dance performed by Mrs. Crutchfield’s younger sister and family members honoring defenders of the nation.
