FORT STORY, Va. - The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is gearing up to kick-off the third iteration of its signature Chemical and Biological Operational Analysis (CBOA) event. This Joint Force engagement is a scenario-based, live field exercise that provides DTRA technologists with essential end-user feedback. This feedback is then used to directly enhance the development of warfighter capabilities in a chemical or biological contested environment through steering developmental course corrections or confirmations, and system vulnerability and limitation analysis. The event will take place at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Fort Story, Va., from May 24-28, 2021.
The CBOA concept derived from the need to establish a solid Scientist-to-Warfighter line of communication to bridge capability and usability gaps that can occur during the conception to battlefield development cycle. During a CBOA, technology prototypes from industry, government laboratories and academia are put in the hands of the warfighter to use while conducting realistic missions in adaptive scenarios. This year’s event will provide Military operators the opportunity to provide candid input into form, fit-function and concepts of employment for 33 technology prototypes and 18 emerging technology concepts.
This assessment exercise provides a unique learning venue to further the understanding of military challenges and their potential solutions. Military operator feedback informs current and future capability documents that drive design decisions, informs future acquisition decisions, accelerates the delivery of military useful capabilities to the warfighter and increases the likelihood of success across the doctrine, organization, training, material, leader development, personnel, and facilities domains.
A CBOA 21 COVID 19 Response and Preparedness Plan has been implemented to reduce risk and prevent exposure of participants to COVID-19.
