    151st Wing

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox made his first official visit as governor to the 151st Air Refueling Wing, Utah Air National Guard, on April 28, where he received a mission brief followed by a flight to see an in-air refueling mission.

The intent of the visit to Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base was to familiarize the governor with the 151st ARW missions and capabilities, as well as meet the Airmen who help make it happen.

Cox was greeted by Maj. Gen. Michael Turley, the adjutant general of the Utah National Guard, along with Brig. Gen. Daniel Boyack, assistant adjutant general-Air, and Command Chief Master Sgt. Brian Garrett, state command chief, then proceeded to learn more about the wing's history, missions and future outlooks.

"The unique aspect of the Utah Air National Guard is we are trained to serve our country at a moment's notice as well as live and serve our local community," said Garrett. "Our Airmen are
fully trained to meet the same requirements as the Active Duty, and we meet those requirements in a fraction of the time and cost."

After the mission brief, the governor and his staff proceeded to the flight line to get an up-close look at the KC-135R Stratotanker and meet with the Airmen who ensure the aircraft stays up-to-date and mission capable.

"The Airmen of the Utah Air National Guard are our number one resource for the state," said Boyack. "They receive leadership training throughout their career as well as utilize the free education benefits we provide to them. Without them, the jets wouldn't be able to take off."

During the flight, the governor and staff watched as several F-35 Lightnings assigned from Hill Air Force Base were refueled over the west desert of Utah.

“This visit is beneficial to the relationship we have with our governor,” said Boyack. “It gives us an opportunity to demonstrate and show that we are ready to serve and protect the state of Utah in a moment's notice.”

Following the flight, Turley thanked the governor for visiting the Air National Guard base and also invited him and his staff to review the capabilities of the Army National Guard.

"We appreciate your time and commitment here today and hope you gained an appreciation for the remarkable men and women of the 151st Air Refueling Wing," said Turley.
