Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Brandon Troublefield is assigned to Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa unaccompanied housing where he serves as the barracks petty officer (BPO) responsible for three Camp Shields barracks. As BPO he helps conduct maintenance, inspections, opens doors for people locked out of their rooms, and maintains the health of the buildings.
“We’re here to help incorporate anyone coming here unaccompanied or on geo-bachelors orders to have a safe environment to live at, to make sure the buildings themselves are good, and to improve everyone’s quality of life,” he said of his job. “We’re like a hotel service, without the hotel service.”
Troublefield says he loves Japan, where as the son of a Sailor he has lived on and off since childhood. This is the 13-year veteran from Hampton, Va.'s second time on Okinawa.
“I love everything about Okinawa, I just love Japan period,” he said. “There’s the sun, the culture, the experience, the people. On the whole, there’s nothing better than the peaceful culture. Its’ one of the places in the world you can go to and feel at peace.”
