FORT LEE, Va. (April 29, 2021) – Job seekers can learn about the 150-plus employment opportunities available here during the Fort Lee Hiring Expo set for May 13, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Lee Club.

The open-to-the-public event will feature the following agencies seeking applicants: Family and MWR; Holiday Inn Express; the Defense Commissary Agency; the Army Education Center; and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. Representatives from each will be on-hand to conduct interviews and make tentative offers to qualified applicants.

Those interested in attending should bring their Social Security card; state or government identification; high school diploma; and transcripts and references. Having several copies of a resume is recommended. If applicable, job seekers also should bring their marriage license; permanent change of station orders; DD Form 214 or DA Form 3434.

Megan Green, FMWR marketing manager, said the expo aims to provide an environment where job seekers can connect face-to-face with employer representatives and gain a greater understanding of their hiring needs.

“They get to learn a little more about the jobs in a one-on-one setting versus going online and filling out applications,” she said.

The International Hotel Group, a privatized company that now manages Army Lodging facilities across the country, is among the employers here with the largest number of available positions. It provides lodging accommodations primarily for military members on training status.

One of its employees, Fort Lee Holiday Inn Express front desk agent Tylisha Hagood, had never worked at a military installation and described this first-time experience as fulfilling.

“There’s a lot I like a lot,” said the Eastern Shore native who came aboard in August. “I can’t pinpoint one thing.” Among the perks she then listed were “meeting new people, supporting guests and making them feel like this is their home away from home.”

FMWR, which facilitates family support and recreational services, has 65 positions available – the biggest deficit in recent history by far. Darrell W. Clay, the agency’s director, said there is much anticipation for the event.

“We’re excited to participate in this job fair along with our partners from AAFES, the Commissary, the Education Center and the Fort Lee Holiday Inn Express,” he said. “This job fair is an opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the over 150 jobs that are currently available. These are amazing opportunities not only for employment but also to give back and make a difference with our military and families.”
Many of the FMWR positions are associated with its Child and Youth Services program. Tamara Johnson, CYS coordinator, said working within her accredited organization provides the following benefits and more:

    • Availability of regular fulltime and part time positions
    • Non-competitive pay increases for training completion
    • All CYS training paid for and on the clock
    • Job placement preference when transitioning to another installation (U.S. and overseas)
    • CYS staff is eligible for childcare at the highest priority
    • Agency-funded certifications
    • All child development centers and school-age center programs are accredited.
    • COVID-19 protective equipment provided.
    • Taking care of military children allows those in uniform to focus on the country’s defense

Would-be attendees visiting Fort Lee for the first time should enter through the Sisisky Boulevard Gate where they will undergo an initial background check. Previous visitors and those with a DOD identification card may enter through any open access gate

The Lee Club is located at the corner of Mahone Avenue and Battle Drive, near the intersection adjacent to Williams Stadium. For more information about the hiring expo, call 804-734-7195 or visit lee.armymwr.com.
