Joint Task Force-Bravo, in coordination with the Security Cooperation Office at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa, donated 15 thermal foggers with maintenance kits to fight dengue in the department of La Paz, Honduras, April 15, 2021.
The thermal foggers, ideal for insect control, were donated to the Regional Health Office in La Paz. This equipment will assist the medical department in providing the local population with protection and prevention against vector-borne illnesses, like dengue, zika, and chikungunya, that affect the region.
“We are very grateful for the support you have given us, not only this year but for a very long time,” said Dr. Nora Antúnez, regional health director for La Paz. “These foggers will strengthen our fight against dengue not only in the municipality of La Paz but in the entire department.”
The Task Force, through its Civil Affairs and medical teams, has conducted several donations to the region under the U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program and had previously donated personal protective equipment and sanitation products valued at approximately $15,000, while the recent donation of foggers is valued at approximately $13,000.
Due to the close proximity between Soto Cano Air Base and the departments of La Paz and Comayagua, any illnesses affecting the areas can also potentially affect the service members stationed there, making the safety and protection of the general population a joint effort.
“Your dedication to protecting the health of your people is inspiring, whether it’s with the ongoing pandemic or the diseases affecting the area. We are a part of this community and we are in this fight together,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Gregory Roberts, JTF-Bravo deputy commander.
