U.S. Navy Seabees Support Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae

CHINHAE, Republic of Korea - U.S. Navy Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4, integrated with Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) by supporting the CFAC Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) fundraising event and security training exercise.

On Feb. 20, the CFAC CSADD held a fundraising event during a friendly softball tournament involving teams from U.S. Army Garrisons Humphreys, Daegu, CFAC, and other bases in South Korea. Seabees from NMCB 4 provided food to all participants and raised $150 and 110,000 South Korean Won (KRW) during the event.

Builder 2nd Class Royshawn Ferguson, a volunteer at the event, remarked, "It was exciting working alongside Sailors outside the Seabee community, something we don't do as often in Battalion. I was able to experience the base life and the community within. CFAC has taken us with open arms, and I'm excited to continue to work alongside them.”

Soon after, on Feb. 23, four Seabees volunteered to be simulated protestors for a training exercise which evaluated the response of the CFAC Main Gate Master-at-Arms.

"It was a good time working with CFAC, helping them train and be better if anything does occur. It was a good learning experience on both parts - us as the protestors and the gate's security staff. Evaluators thought we were loud, so overall [it was] successful," said Utilities Constructionman Jonathan Dunn after completing their mock protest demonstration.

The deployed Seabees in Chinhae work to provide civil engineer support and strengthen community and partner relations within CFA Chinhae and the local community.

NMCB 4 is forward-deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific region ready to support major combat operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and to provide general engineering and civil support to U.S. and joint forces.
