Since 1904, the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) has assisted thousands of military service members and their families through programs and resources such as quick assistance loans, a visiting nurse program, volunteer opportunities, financial education, disaster relief and an emergency travel budget.

NMCRS is a nonprofit and charitable organization whose objective is to maintain the operational readiness of the force by providing resources and programs to service members and their families. The organization maintains its ability to provide resources by holding an annual active duty fund drive each year. The fund drive is held to raise funds that will continue to support the programs and services offered, but also to raise awareness of the programs and services available to active duty Sailors and Marines.

“Everything that we draw in, we give back out to our service members,” said Rita Fountain, the director for NMCRS. “Due to the stimulus last year, we gave out only around $1.07 million dollars, and the year before we gave out around $2.4 million just out of our office. That is the importance of the fund drive; allowing service members to put money in that could possibly help the service member beside them.”

NMCRS provides services to not only active duty service members, but to retirees, eligible family members and widows. According to nmcrs.org, approximately 84 percent of donations contribute to support programs provided, while the remaining is used to support personnel.

In December 2020, the NMCRS board of directors, set a goal for the 2021 fund drive with hopes to raise $12.5 million collectively throughout the organization. The fund drive will kick off March 1, 2021, by accepting donations.

Active duty service members, retirees and family members are encouraged to contribute to assist the continuation of programs and resources that directly impact their fellow service members. To donate, visit www.nmcrs.org/adfd.
