TULLAHOMA, T.N. — During a cold and drizzly drill weekend, Soldiers and Airmen with the Tennessee National Guard, challenged themselves to be the best among the rest in the 2020 Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year competition, Oct. 23-25 in Tullahoma, T.N.
The competition consisted of several events including a service uniform inspection, air assault obstacle course, day and night land navigation course, M4 and M16 qualification, Army Warrior Task drills, stress shot course, an 8-mile ruck march, the new Army Combat Fitness Test, and to close the weekend out they stood before TN NG battalion and brigade sergeant major in a formal board; the candidates acquired points from each event based upon upon their performance and completion.
“This is honestly my favorite time of the year for our Soldiers as well as Airmen,” said U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Hank White, the senior enlisted leader for the 117th Regiment Training Institute. “We put in a great deal of effort with organizing every detail of this competition to make sure it is as beneficial for our Soldiers and Airmen as much as it is fun time. The camaraderie between the Soldiers and the Airmen is what I know everyone looks forward to, it’s a just as much of a team building competition as it is training for individual development.”
