Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D. – The 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron Vehicle Management Flight partnered with Safe Kids Grand Forks to host this year’s Prep My Ride event Oct. 8, 2020, on Grand Forks Air Force Base.
The event included free winter-minded safety checks and certified car seat checks on personally owned vehicles for the members on base.
“The event is open to anyone with a vehicle and base access,” said Tech. Sgt. Sean Nolte, 319 LRS Vehicle Management Operations Section Chief. “We provide them with a multi-point inspection and any maintenance recommendations they might need before winter.”
The 319 LRS Vehicle Management Flight created a safety checklist to inspect each vehicles lights, windshield wipers, tires, and oil levels.
“Prep My Ride not only benefits the community of the base, but also the vehicle management team,” said Nolte. “It is a great opportunity for the flight to get out of their typical daily duties, build morale and get their hands on more vehicles outside of the work place.”
The flight worked alongside certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who disassemble and reinstall car seats insuring to properly install the seat, check if the seat is for the correct age, height and weight for the child and inspect the seat for any damage and any recalls the car seat may have.
“The technicians from Safe Kids Grand Forks will also teach the parents and caretakers how to properly install the car seat,” stated Nolte. “This is a great opportunity for families with young children to have a certified professional help prevent any mishaps in the future.”
According to https://www.safekidsgf.com, approximately 4 out of 5 car seats are installed and used incorrectly, the misuse may lead to injury or the death of children in a car accident.
“Our main goal is to keep out airmen safe while operating a vehicle,” stated Nolte. “We can do our part by making sure their cars are prepared for winter.”
