USAF Civil Engineers assigned to the 374 CES at Yokota Air Base, Japan, teamed up with Resident Office personnel and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers’ (USACE) Japanese contractor, NIPPO, to complete a construction project. The team worked to install water lines during the development of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) campus. During initial surveying, contractors determined the 6-inch water line passing through the project construction area needed to be re-routed rather than demolished. Due to coordination and funding concerns, the 374 CES elected to perform the work in partnership with NIPPO, which saved $431,000 in additional project costs.

On 03 Aug, a team of eight skilled Water Fuels System Maintenance (WFSM) pipe fitters, including local Japanese national employees, began work on the trench. Although temperatures were in the mid-90s, 374 CES Airmen worked to install more than 820 linear feet of 8-inch Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP), while NIPPO contractors installed a parallel 10-inch DIP line. The team completed the project on 25 Aug 2020 ahead of schedule.

The coordination efforts of the 374 CES and the USACE enabled the $63 million AFSOC project to continue unhindered, meeting the project's mission of constructing six ramp spaces for CV-22 aircraft currently stationed at Yokota AB. This partnership leveraged the skillsets of engineers across multiple agencies to efficiently complete the project and limit budget spending.
