    97th Air Mobility Wing

The 97th Air Mobility Wing hosted the 22nd Annual Cattle Drive on September 25, 2020, at Altus Air Force Base. This year, 30 longhorn cattle were driven approximately 3.5 miles through Altus AFB by local ranchers and base leadership. The cattle drive started in 1999 where 15 riders and a herd of roughly 30 longhorn cattle paraded through the streets of Altus AFB. The cattle drive is unique to Altus AFB as it is the only Air Force base in the world to host an event such as this. Traditionally, the cattle drive kickstarts the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo, but this year, the cattle drive was held in correlation with the Altus AFB Flying Rodeo. The Flying Rodeo is designed to mentor and develop instructors through friendly competition in core competencies taught at the 97th AMW. The cattle drive is made possible every year by the partnership between the Altus Military Affairs Committee along with the Watkins family.
