Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point

On Aug. 6, 2020, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) announced the opening of AutoGeeks, a brand new, state-of-the-art service facility specializing in preventative vehicle maintenance for the community.

Services they offer include oil changes, tire balance/rotations, brake repair, North Carolina state auto inspections and more. AutoGeeks is located next to the installation AutoSkilz shop and offers early drop-off service, competitive pricing, a retail auto care section, and an on-base courtesy shuttle service that will return customers to their place of business while their vehicle is being repaired. AutoGeeks offers an on-base automotive care option that also appeals to the unique needs and requirements of working on a military installation.

With a decline in funding, MCCS looked for creative ways to keep the free Auto Skills program alive and a viable resource for Marines and Sailors, according to MCCS managers. The installation Auto Skills center, named AutoSkilz, allows patrons to perform various types of maintenance to personal vehicles and is one of many across the Marine Corps that has aided in saving service members and their families more than $11 million a year in auto repairs.

“By using services, or purchasing car care products at AutoGeeks, our military families are helping to offset costs of the Auto Skills program here at Cherry Point,” said Mike Largent, MCCS Cherry Point Director.

Multiple events are scheduled to highlight the center’s grand opening Aug. 6- 8. Thursday, Aug. 6 is Gearhead day, which includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony and automotive maintenance demonstrations. Friday, Aug. 7 is Car Care day, which includes multiple car care demonstrations from companies such as Meguiars, Rain X, and Mother’s. A car show will take place beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8. It will include prize giveaways, and trophies will be awarded for different classes of vehicles.
