SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --
Reserve Citizen Airmen at the 310th Space Wing welcomed their new commander during a change of command ceremony, July 31.

Maj. Gen. Brian Borgen, the Tenth Air Force commander, presided over the ceremony as Col. Shariful Khan assumed command of the wing from Col. Dean Sniegowski.

“What I need from you is to be ready, to stand ready,” Khan said, as he addressed the socially distanced crowd. “Mission readiness, per the guidelines of the national defense strategy, is my top priority.”

Acknowledging the personal sacrifices that 310th SW members make in supporting the mission, Khan expressed his eagerness to take care of his Airmen.

“I’m humbled by the sacrifices that you and your families make each and every day to move the ball forward,” said Khan. “My pledge is that I will work my absolute hardest to take care of you, I only ask that you take care of each other as well.”

Khan will be responsible for more than 1,000 military and civilian personnel assigned to 19 units including three that are geographically separated. The mission sets include pace operations, network security, command and control of space forces, missile warning, navigation, weather, medical and mission support. Collectively, the units support combatant commanders worldwide on a daily basis.

Prior to taking command of the 310th SW, Khan was the director of U.S. Air Force Reserve programs and integration for the deputy assistant secretary of defense for Reserve integration for the office of the secretary of defense in Washington D.C.

Sniegowski will be Tenth Air Force vice commander stationed at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas.
