REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (July 1, 2020) – It’s a motto that guides Carol Holcomb’s career: “One team, one fight.”

That philosophy will serve Holcomb well in her new position as principal deputy for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center’s Systems Readiness Directorate, where she is responsible for helping lead the center’s readiness- and sustainment-based services, to include airworthiness.

“Ms. Holcomb has superior knowledge and experience leading large, diverse organizations and is well versed in strategic planning,” said CCDC AvMC Executive Director Dr. Juanita M. Christensen. “Ms. Holcomb has served in leadership positions in AvMC and in support to our primary customer base in relevant sustainment roles across both the aviation and missile competency areas. This background uniquely qualified Carol for the SRD principal deputy position.”

A Huntsville native, Holcomb received her bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and her master’s in management from the Florida Institute of Technology. Holcomb knew she would pursue an engineering career from an early age. Her father, who worked at the U.S. Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment Activity on Redstone Arsenal, would bring her to work, allowing for her to learn about the equipment and develop her strong suits in math and physics. It only made sense to follow in his footsteps as a civil servant.

“You can work on a multitude of Army weapon systems ranging from guided, unguided, ground or air,” Holcomb said of the neat things that accompany working for the Army. “You actually get to contribute to the Warfighter. There’s a great feeling when you go out to the range and watch what you’ve been working on go ‘boom,’ and you know that’s actually going to help the fight.”

Holcomb started her government career in 1988 as a co-op at the Test and Evaluation Command, and joined AvMC – then the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center – in 2003. She has held a variety of roles, to include time spent as the technical deputy for materiel suitability for SRD and as the associate director for product/mission assurance in the former Engineering Directorate. She is considered a distinguished technical expert in planning, developing, managing, and executing Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command programs.

“I look forward to being part of the new Army Futures Command, helping to develop and formulate how we move forward, how we do better at modernizing the Army. Identifying where we can improve ourselves in terms of processes and efficiencies is fundamentally how we get a better, more reliable, sustainable product quicker to the field,” Holcomb said.
