SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich.—Leadership of the 127th Wing held their first live, virtual townhall meeting here May 27, 2020, to answer questions and address matters affecting Wing Airmen with regards to the coronavirus disease pandemic. The townhall helped bridge a communications gap created when the COVID-19 pandemic forced leadership to adjust training schedules to allow for proper social distancing.
“What I don’t want to talk about is what’s not on the minds of Airmen,” Chief Master Sgt. Richard Gordon, 127th Wing command chief master sergeant said prior to the townhall.
Brig. Gen. Rolf E. Mammen, commander of 127th Wing and Selfridge Air National Guard Base, emphasized that maintaining readiness continues to be a primary focus.
“Our federal mission continues, nothing stopped or changed since we started relief response,” Mammen said. “Our folks who’ve deployed overseas continue doing great work.”
Questions and comments were submitted by email and through social media with topics ranging from physical fitness testing to financial support and relief, as well as what procedures to follow if a member is sick when reporting for duty.
The video of the townhall broadcast is on the 127th Wing Facebook page, in the "videos," section. Questions and answers addressed during the townhall can be found on the 127th Wing website, 127wg.ang.af.mil/home/coronavirus.
