International Security Assistance Force service member dies as a result of an improvised explosive device strike
KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member died yesterday, July 19, as a result of an improvised explosive device strike that occurred in southern Afghanistan.
"My deepest sympathies go out to the family members and loved ones of this proud soldier who fell while patrolling to improve security for the Afghan population in the south. His sacrifice is not in vain as ISAF troops and their Afghan national security forces partners continue to establish lasting presence in regions once roamed by the Taliban," said Brigadier General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.
"Our operations in the south have significantly disrupted those who have no interest in seeing progress and opportunity benefit ordinary Afghans. The vicious IED tactics employed by the insurgents will not deter us in our commitment to protect Afghan citizens from the intimidation and violence of the enemies of this great nation."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been informed.
