Team Moody is scheduled to kick off the 2020 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, and will accept donations March 16 to April 24, 2020, at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.

Moody’s campaign goal is $61,635, which will help fund the charitable affiliates of AFAF that provide support to Airmen and their families.

“AFAF shows how well Moody is taking care of its Airmen,” said 1st Lt. Jovan Nieves, AFAF base coordinator. “This is our opportunity to take care of this organization that takes care of us. It’s Airmen taking care of Airmen.”

AFAF is able to care for Airmen and their families through four sub-organizations, offering worldwide emergency financial and education assistance along with an array of base-level, community enhancement programs to help Airmen through every step of their life.

    The four AFAF organizations are:
    – The Air Force Aid Society. AFAS works to support and enhance the Air Force mission by providing emergency financial assistance, educational support and community programs.
    – The Air Force Enlisted Village, a community for surviving spouses of retired enlisted Air Force members.
    – The Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation, which cares for the widowed spouses of retired Air Force officers.
    – The General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation, which aids in keeping surviving spouses of retired Air Force members in their homes.

Chief Master Sgt. James Wilfong, 23d Wing command chief, articulated why it’s important for Airmen to invest in the programs that support them.

“The significance of AFAF is to provide support to active duty, reservists, guard, retirees and our dependents – including surviving spouses,” Wilfong said. “Your generosity impacts countless American heroes and their families who find themselves in need of some crucial support.

“Life happens, and having a hand to grab during some of the darkest days is enormously important,” Wilfong added. “The donations you all provide ensure programs exist that support Airmen from entry all the way through retirement. Thanks to everyone who has donated, is donating, and will donate to the Air Force Assistance Fund!”

Nieves highlighted some of the ways the Air Force Aid Society can aid Airmen.

“If you find yourself in a situation where you overspent on a car, the Air Force Aid Society offers the assistance so they can work through a very structured recovery and then take those lessons learned and move forward,” Nieves said. “Also, if you have an emergency or an unfortunate loss of a family member and perhaps you don't have the money at the time, you can take advantage of the Air Force Aid Society, because it’s there at your disposal.”

Nieves explained how e-giving is the newest way for Airmen can give this year.

“What's new for this year is giving through the AFAF website,” Nieves said. “There's also a text feature that offers another way for giving. Those are two avenues that offer folks who don't have cash or check, or they don't want to do a payroll deduction. It's an opportunity for them to donate. It’s something exciting the Air Force is trying to do, to get us where we can make this as streamlined as possible.”

For more information on how to donate, Airmen can contact their squadron representatives, call Nieves at 229-257-9973 or visit https://www.afassistancefund.org/.
