Bremerton, Wash. (Feb. 22, 2020) The All-Navy Wrestling team earned fourth place in Greco-Roman style wrestling at the 2020 Armed Forces Wrestling Championship, hosted by the U.S. Navy, at Naval Base Kitsap–Bremerton, Feb. 22.
The tournament was also hosted at Naval Base Kitsap–Bremerton in 2016.
The highest placed Senior U.S. Greco‐Roman athlete winning a gold or silver medal at the Armed Forces Wrestling Championships earned their spot for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
The freestyle competition is not an olympic trials qualifier.
The competition was held over two days with Saturday featuring Greco-Roman style wrestling and Freestyle wrestling on Sunday. Navy placed second in women’s freestyle with three silver medalists at 50kg, 53kg and 76kg.
Seven new athletes qualified for the olympic trials in Greco-Roman at the 2020 Armed Forces Wrestling Championships.
In total, there are now 165 athletes qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, 52 in men’s freestyle, 53 in women’s freestyle and 60 in Greco-Roman.
The 2020 U.S. Olympic Team wrestling trials will be at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa., April 4-5.
The winners of the trials will compete for the United States at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
