JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mentoring is about fostering relationships. It’s about sharing gifts and knowledge with those who can benefit from the insights, experiences and guidance.
If a mentor is fortunate, they will influence those around them to also inspire others — some might even receive recognition for their efforts. FRCSE’s Employee Relations Branch Head, Kelsey Mundy has earned both.
From peers to mentees, she has a profound impact on those around her, so it was no surprise when she snagged FRCSE’s 2019 Mentor of the Year Award – an honor that is recognized throughout COMFRC and NAVAIR. She took the idea of mentorship and ran with it.
She was nominated by Eileen Ar201thur, a fellow employee, and humbly accepted her award on Jan. 28. Her award was presented on-site at FRCSE in Jacksonville, Fla., but was broadcast virtually during NAVAIR’s Mentoring Across the Organization event, an annual celebration that takes place during mentoring month.
“I was honored to be nominated for this award, let alone be selected, considering the caliber of the mentors we have at FRCSE,” Mundy said. “Mentoring is instrumental for professional and personal growth and I highly recommend employees participate in some form of mentoring, whether it be formal, informal or speed mentoring events.”
Mundy was one of 76 nominees under the NAVAIR Enterprise, and she was selected as FRCSE’s winner among nine other candidates.
“Be the kind of mentor you would look up to, and be willing to learn from those with a style that's a little different from yours,” said FRCSE’s Executive Officer, Capt. Grady Duffey. “You are a mentor whether you know it or not.”
