RALEIGH, N.C. – Soldiers from the 60th Troop Command, North Carolina Army National Guard, compete against one another in the brigade-level Best Warrior Competition held in and around Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina, Feb. 7-8, 2020.

The BWC is an annual event that challenges Soldiers’ knowledge of military operations, basic warrior tasks and physical fitness.

The BWC is an opportunity for Soldiers to represent not only their unit, but to showcase themselves as Soldiers, said U.S. Army Sgt. Jamal Tucker, a competitor with 732nd Forward Support Company.

“With this uniform on, I’m representing the National Guard, but with my skills and work ethic, I’m representing myself,” Tucker said. “I want to be the best in everything they’ve taught me.”

The seven contenders competed in a 6-mile ruck march, a dress uniform inspection and board, map reading, fitness test, and an essay. U.S. Army Spc. Hunter Blue, a competitor from the 732nd Forward Support Company, said his favorite part of the BWC was the ruck march.

“The trail was awesome,” he said. “They integrated a lot of cool stuff instead of making it just a straight shot.”

The best qualified noncommissioned officer and Soldier will represent the 60th TC during the next level of the competition at the NCARNG’s BWC to be held at Camp Butner, North Carolina, March 16-20, 2020.
