Soldiers from 17 allied and partnered countries participated in Combined Resolve XIII (CBRXIII) at Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany Jan.-Feb. 2020. The only Dutch female from Alpha Company got some hands on experience at the exercise.

Dutch Pvt. Terkulve, a medic and driver with Alpha Company learned a lot during CBRXIII and expanded her driving skills on the unique terrain at JMRC.

“In Holland we don’t have mountains, so the terrain was very different and that was what made the learning to drive more exciting.” said Terkulve.

Terkulve is an assigned driver of the Boxer, a tactical medical vehicle.

“I’m new at driving, so it was a learning process, especially at night,” said Terkulve. “Sometimes it was so dark that I really couldn’t see anything and had to put my trust in my fellow soldiers to navigate.”

She has been in the military for two years and this was her first time participating at JMRC.

“This was my first big exercise, I’ve been to a few smaller ones but not like this,” said Terkulve.

Combined Resolve allows soldiers to better develop basic battlefield-critical capabilities like communicating with and understanding our allies and partners.
