The 606th Air Control Squadron conducted exercise Primo Specto for eight days at Aviano Air Base, Italy beginning Jan. 24, 2020. The purpose of the exercise was to test the squadron’s capability of 24-hour operations which ensured they were prepared for future exercises.
Exercises like these help prepare the 606th ACS to be rapidly ready for real world missions.
The squadron was able to practice Mission-Orientated Protective Postures and focused on putting on coats, trousers, gloves, boots, and gas masks quickly and efficiently. The Airmen were also required to handle scenarios and perform tasks which are not included in their daily operations.
“We had [entry control points], par teams, and security making sure the site was secure,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Seth Pennock, 606th ACS interface control technician. “We had missions going around the morning, noon, and evening so that we could emphasize that we are able to operate twenty-four-seven.”
Exercises such as Primo Specto allow Airmen to practice the skills they’ve learned but may not use as often. The exercise instills confidence in the Airmen and prepares them to deter through safe, secure, and effective operations.
“By doing these necessary exercises, we can prove not only to [United States Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa] and NATO, but also to our families back home that we are proficient and we’re able to take the necessary actions to deploy and prepare for whatever may lie ahead,” said Pennock.
