NEW CHAPTER IN SECURITY OF NORTHEASTERN EUROPE

Elblag, Poland – A new chapter in the security of Multinational Division North East began Wednesday when a Lithuanian and Polish Brigade became affiliated with the command following the signing of an act of affiliation in Vilnius, Lithuania.

“We have had a relationship with these brigades since 2017, and this act of affiliation enables us to increase the cooperation and further the interoperability between MND-NE and the brigades,” said Polish Army Maj. Gen. Krzysztof Motacki, commanding general, Multinational Division North East. “It is a historical moment for our command.”

The affiliation between these brigades to the MND-NE will create opportunities to increase the readiness of the division through training and exercises. It also provides the opportunity to enhance our collective technical and tactical skills as well as build relationships between the soldiers.

“This affiliation has increased our responsibilities, and our deterrence and defense posture as a division, and shows the trust and confidence that Lithuania and Poland have in us,” Motacki said. “We have never failed, and we will continue to work hard to improve the readiness of these two brigades.”

Multinational Division North East coordinates activities of the enhanced Forward Presence Battle Groups deployed in Lithuania and Poland. These tasks consist of the coordination of training and increasing situational awareness in the region. Moreover, the headquarters is to be ready to carry out collective defense operations in accordance with Washington Treaty Article 5.
