FORT RILEY, Kan. -- The 1st Infantry Division held a change of responsibility ceremony on January 24 in the division’s headquarters building at Fort Riley, Kansas.
The event, which had over 200 people in attendance and was live-streamed online, was held to honor Command Sgt. Maj. Craig A. Bishop and welcome incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond S. Harris as the new senior enlisted advisor to the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley’s commanding general.
Bishop, who served in this position since March 21, 2018, used his speech to thank the many people who mentored and assisted him during his time on Fort Riley, including the current Vice Chief of Staff of the Army and the current division commander.
“I am and always will be a Big Red One Soldier,” Bishop said. “It is truly the fine human beings and people that make up the composition of all the different units on this installation that truly make it what it is today.”
Bishop, with nearly three decades of service, will move on to become the senior enlisted advisor for the Joint Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
“He truly embodies and has set the example for what it means to be a Soldier, a husband, a brother, a father and, for me, a friend,” said Maj. Gen. John S. Kolasheski, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley.
Harris, who previously served with the 1st Infantry Division, attributed the division with making him the leader that he is today.
“I look forward to serving as your command sergeant major and building a strong partnership with the community,” Harris said. “I am proud to be a Big Red One Soldier and pledge to be brave, responsible and on point for this division.”
Harris enlisted in the Army in March 1996 and most recently served as the senior enlisted advisor for the 3rd Security Forces Assistant Brigade based in Fort Hood, TX.
Prior to the ceremony, Bishop was inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, a private Army organization for outstanding noncommissioned officers.
The ceremony’s stream remains available for viewing on the division’s Facebook page.
