Leadership and medical technicians from the 52nd Fighter Wing and its geographically separated units attended a Personnel Reliability and Assurance Program summit here for the first time Jan. 7, 2020.
The summit was an opportunity for care providers and PRAP leaders to meet face to face to discuss how they can ensure unit Airmen are ready and reliable.
The 52nd FW, 52nd Munitions Maintenance Group, and its four munitions support squadrons and their host nation partners in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy are responsible for the safe, secure, and reliable execution of NATO’s strike mission.
“This mission is critical to NATO’s defense posture and provides credible deterrence for the alliance,” said Lt. Col. Craig Bailey, 52nd MMG deputy commander. “Countless agencies across the 52nd FW and 31st FW at Aviano, Italy, provide critical support to the MUNSS, contributing to this ‘no-fail’ mission. PRAP Airmen are the cornerstone of mission execution and must always be ready and reliable to meet the exacting standards they’re held to.”
Unique to here, Spangdahlem’s PRAP Airmen are scattered throughout Europe at their respective GSUs, rather than at one location. The summit allowed leaders and medical personnel to come together and share how PRAP Airmen are personally cared for in order for them to perform their job.
“The summit was held so we could build and foster professional working relationships and brainstorm pitfalls and potential process failures within the PRAP program,” said Tech. Sgt. Bradley Campbell, 52nd Medical Group lead PRAP monitor.
Many at Spangdahlem’s GSUs are a part of this program and responsible for the ownership, custody, accountability and release of war reserve munitions supporting NATO forces. PRAP Airmen are required to meet the highest levels of integrity and dependability, entrusted with duties essential to protecting U.S. and NATO allies.
Individuals certified under PRAP must agree that certifying officials and medical evaluators can review certain information and materials concerning their on and off-duty activities. These include medical, mental health, police and employment records, credit reports, and more.
Specific guidance ensures PRAP medical screenings, evaluations, and notifications are accomplished in a timely and accurate manner to allow for mission continuation.
“The summit proved extremely beneficial,” Bailey said. “I believe everyone left with a better understanding of where we are and where we need to go with PRAP. We have a very good PRAP program across the wing. The summit and follow-on actions will only make the program better.”
