The Fort Riley Tax Center, Building 7034 at Normandy and Bullard drives, will open Jan. 21 to help Soldiers, eligible dependents and retirees with their 2017 through 2019 federal and state income tax returns.
“(We) will only do state returns as a courtesy when filing federal returns,” said Elizabeth G. Thurston, senior attorney, Legal Assistance Office, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.
They will not deal with more than two rental properties and no business returns except for childcare providers on Fort Riley.
Returns from the previous two years can be reviewed and amended if necessary, if they were prepared by the Fort Riley Tax Center.
The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and close April 15. Appointments can be made by calling 785-239-1040; walk-ins are welcome up to 5 p.m.
When going to the tax center there are several pieces of information people need to remember to bring with them.
“The important item that everyone forgets or doesn’t have is their social security card or a copy,” Thurston said.
