CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait -- Army and civilian financial advisors gathered for the annual Finance and Comptroller Forum held by U.S. Army Central on Dec. 9-11 at Camp Arifjan.
The event brought Soldiers and contractors together from across the U.S. Army Central footprint in order to create a dialogue between senior financial leaders, improving communication and understanding between finance professionals.
This year’s theme - acquire, distribute, and account - organized the topics of discussion into clearly defined categories while keeping the talking points broad enough to encompass various areas across the USARCENT area of operations.
“One part of the area of operations could be dynamically different than the other,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Brad K. Dreyer, Deputy Chief of Staff, USARCENT finance management. “Bringing everybody together gives a perspective where we get to put all the pieces together across the region.”
This year’s forum tried something new by splitting the various participants into smaller groups, allowing for a diverse list of topics to be talked about from a focused perspective. Afterwards, the participants joined back together to discuss the prominent small group topics more in depth as a large group
“I’m proud of the way we came together,” said U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Herlitz A. Henderson, senior enlisted advisor, USARCENT finance management. “Everything was synchronized and focused on the theme as to achieve the desired result.”
“The nature of any kind of operation is going to be dynamic,” said Dreyer. “What becomes critical for that is to ensure that we’re establishing a firm foundation in our forces, so training is necessary.”
Not only did key financial leadership meet throughout the days of the forum but they discussed ways to improve various aspects of the budget and trained side-by-side to create an effective execution of USARCENT’s yearly fiscal allotment.
“We can’t predict what is going to happen in the future, but the one thing we can predict is that things will change,” said Henderson. “What we have to do is make sure we have a disciplined, trained and equipped force to respond to that change.”
The finance and comptroller directorate aims to stand ready to supply the funds required to keep the world’s premiere fighting force equipped to accomplish the mission.
