U.S. Soldiers and family members, assigned to the 2d Cavalry Regiment, build esprit de corps during the Dragoon Family Holiday Run the morning of the Dragoon Winter Gala 2019 in Vilseck, Germany, Dec. 13, 2019. The run was an effort to establish camaraderie between each squadron within the regiment.
“The run was a great time,” said Staff Sgt. Logan Haupt, fire support non-commissioned officer in charge, 4th Squadron, 2CR. “Seeing the regiment out there building camaraderie is always bound to be a good time and a great segue into the greatest event the 2d Cavalry Regiment has had since May 23rd, 1836.”
Many of the Soldiers, their guests and the unit’s alumni participated both in the run and the ball.
“What a great opportunity today for members of the 2d Cavalry Regiment,” said Col. Thomas Hough, 80th colonel of the regiment. “Bringing the family together and spending some time with Dragoons past and present really sets the tone for the ball tonight.”
Anticipation for the events taking place at the regimental ball contributed to the high morale many Soldiers experienced this morning.
“It’s always exciting to get the entire regiment together,” said 1st Lt. Emilie White, signal officer in charge, Regimental Engineer Squadron, 2CR. “Culminating today’s events with a historical regimental ball is the icing on the cake.”
Bringing 2CR together is a rare moment during the holiday season. Previous years have been a testament to the unit’s high pace of operations.
“Bavaria is an amazing place during the holidays,” said Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Burke, senior enlisted advisor, 2CR. “Getting everyone together one last time before we deploy 3rd Squadron to Poland is a great way to kick it off.”
