MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Every Marine Corps unit heavily depends on its gear to accomplish any mission.
Issuing and Receiving Point, Headquarters and Service Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 5, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, strives to professionally, effectively and efficiently supply needed gear to all of the units that fall under CLR-1.
"Everybody needs supply," said Cpl. Jai A. Ellman, a warehouse clerk with Issuing and Receiving. "Without it, the Marine Corps wouldn't function."
The Issuing and Receiving Point supplies CLR-1 with the gear necessary to be combat ready. Two months prior to deploying, they issue all of the temporary assigned personal gear to Marines or Sailors within the unit. While in a deployed environment, Issuing and Receiving Marines supply the units with the mission essential gear required to complete any task. They provide the service members in the regiment with an array of gear to include 7-ton truck tires, two-man tents and personal protective equipment.
When a Marine arrives at Camp Pendleton, part of checking in includes going to supply and checking out PPE. Personal protective equipment plays a crucial role in providing added protection to service members while in hostile areas.
While CLR-1 Marines are not deployed, they maintain a warehouse with 84 palletized containers full of gear needed for day-to-day operations. They also provide units with office desks and chairs, vehicle parts, communication electronics and maintenance tents.
"If we don't have the gear needed for the Marines, we'll order it for them," said Ellman, 22, from Indianapolis.
The Issuing and Receiving Point Marines are constantly going through their inventory making sure that all of the gear is serviceable and accounted for. All of the units within CLR-1 depend on supply to have the right equipment available for them. Supply accounts for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gear on a daily basis.
"It feels great to be needed by the battalion," said Lance Cpl. Zakiya N. Khalid, a warehouse clerk with Issuing and Receiving.
The supply Marines receive new gear daily to continue providing the regiment with the equipment needed to operate.
Khalid, 21, from Baton Rouge, La., stated that supply will always be here to provide the units the gear needed to be mission capable.
