KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – United States Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz staff welcomed the director of Installation Management Command Directorate-Europe, Tommy Mize on a visit Nov. 13-14.
“It was an exceptional visit. I have a lot better appreciation of the distance over which the garrison is responsible and the units you support,” Mize said. “And, I also have a better appreciation for what a remarkable job the professionals of the garrison are doing in support of the community.”
On Wednesday, garrison leaders began the tour in the Baumholder Military Community, showing Mize the Baumholder Waterworks, BMC fire station, family housing (where they discussed renovations and additional housing units), and the training area to discuss range improvements. The BMC tour also included the new schools construction area and Child and Youth Services activities.
Wednesday wrapped up with an Installation Planning Board meeting for Mize and Maj. Gen. Christopher Mohan, Commanding General, 21st Theater Sustainment Command at Armstrong’s Club.
Thursday began with windshield tours of garrison assets at Landstuhl and Rhine Ordnance Barracks before a meeting with general officers at Ramstein Air Base. Returning to ROB, Mize received a power projection overview brief and saw ROB’s deployment processing operations in person. During lunch, Mize presented coins for excellence to eight garrison employees.
After lunch, Mize went on a windshield tour of Pulaski Barracks, Kleber Kaserne and Germersheim Army Depot.
“To actually drive the distances, to actually see how it feels to move from 100 miles east to west or another 100 miles from north to south gives you the gravity of the scope of responsibility we have in this area,” said Col. Jason Edwards, garrison commander.
In transit between installations, garrison leaders took the opportunity to brief Mize on subjects such as personnel shortages, structure limitations and other various aspects of the garrison he was unable to see during his visit.
