Army medics compete for the coveted EFMB

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Over one hundred fifty Soldiers’ from across the Army’s medical career field are at Fort Bragg to compete for the Expert Field Medical Badge, Oct. 25-31.
The EFMB is a United States Army special skills badge first introduced in 1965. Soldiers’ in the medical career field who seek to earn the EFMB must first complete a series of qualification tests which includes written and performance related events.
Graders separated candidates into lanes and conducted the Army Physical Fitness Test where Candidates performed push-ups, sit-ups and a two-mile run at Pike Field.
Upon completion, candidates were then shuttled, by bus, to the Medical Simulation Training Center where they took a written test. This test contained 80 questions designed to test the medical knowledge of each canidate.
“EFMB challenges the physical and mental toughness of our Armed Forces Medical Personnel,” said Command Sgt. Maj. John Dobbins, a Hollywood, Fla., native, assigned to the 28th Combat Support Hospital, 44th Medical Brigade, Fort Bragg N.C.. “In this pursuit of excellence, confidence and trust are reinforced to the warfighters we support.”
On day one of six, candidates ended with a study hall and less people than when they started.
