EDINBURGH, Ind. - Indiana Air National Guard Airmen participated in the 2019 Enlisted Leadership Symposium held at the R. Martin Umbarger Conference Center, Edinburgh, Ind., Oct. 7-10, 2019.

“This year the symposium was conducted by Indiana ANG Enlisted Leadership and the Chief’s Council from both Wings,” said Command Chief Master Sgt. Michael C. May, State Command Chief, Indiana Air National Guard.

Airmen from the 122nd Fighter Wing, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and the 181st Intelligence Wing, Terre Haute, Indiana, worked together on problem solving projects to learn how to collaborate as a team.

“The most important thing we can do for our Airmen is to develop our future leaders,” said Command Chief Master Sgt. Michael E. Dixon, command chief, 122nd FW. “We help them build a foundation of leadership and help them relate to other Airmen.”

This symposium is designed for the ranks of Staff Sgt. - Master Sgt. to develop and enhance valuable leadership skills.

“It is paramount that Airmen have the time to step away from work and solely concentrate on sharpening their skillset in leadership and management,” said Chief Master Sgt. David Moody, an ELS facilitator.

“This was my first year attending and it has been awesome to work together,” said Staff Sgt. Kelsey Sever, an aerospace medical technician assigned to the 181st IW. “You can gain a lot of insight from attending any leadership training on your base, but there is something else that opens your eyes when you attend these external opportunities where you work with other Airmen from another wing.”

To wrap up the symposium, Airmen had the opportunity to ride in a U.S. Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and watch a close air support exercise conducted by the 113th Air Support Operations Squadron, 181st IW, and two A-10 “Warthogs” assigned to the 122nd FW.
