U.S. Army athletes named to Team U.S. for the Invictus Games 2020 at The Hague, Netherlands

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Department of Defense has announced the names of the servicemen and women who will represent Team U.S. this spring at the Invictus Games 2020 in The Hague, Netherlands May 9 – 16, following the 75th anniversary of the city’s liberation from Nazi Germany. Among those athletes selected as primaries for Team U.S. are 13 active duty and veteran Army athletes that will represent the U.S. and the Army at the Invictus Games The Hague.
The Invictus Games are an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill and injured service members founded in 2014 by HRH Duke of Sussex after he attended the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The word Invictus means unconquered and the Games were created as a way to display the “unconquerable character” and “Invictus Spirit” of the world’s servicemen and women.
The fifth edition of the Invictus Games will also be the second time the event will be held in Europe, with the first being the inaugural Games in London in 2014. According to the official Invictus Games The Hague 2020 site, this year’s Games “will harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support, rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect of those who serve their country.”
While the competition will be fierce, medals are not the focus of this event. The focus is on the strength and will of the more than 500 competitors who served and sacrificed for their country and have overcome their injuries or illness to become the masters of their fate and captains of their soul.
The Invictus Games The Hague 2020 will feature a record 19 allied nations, with Belgium joining the competition for the first time, competing in 10 adaptive sports: archery, athletics, cycling, indoor rowing, Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby.
