USS Emory S. Land Arrives in Singapore

    SEMBAWANG PORT, SINGAPORE

    10.01.2019

Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Destinyy Reed

    USS Emory S. Land (AS-39)

SEMBAWANG NAVAL BASE, Singapore (Sept. 30, 2019) – The submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) arrived in Sembawang, Singapore for a port visit Sept. 30 as part of the ship’s fall deployment.
This is Land’s third port visit during its Indo-Pacific winter patrol. The ship departed its homeport at Apra Harbor, Guam, Aug. 19.
While in port, Emory S. Land Sailors and civilian mariners will have the opportunity to experience Singapore’s natural beauty and interact with the local community.
“The crew is excited to visit the beautiful country of Singapore and further strengthen our friendship with the Singaporean community,” said Land’s commanding officer, Capt. Michael D. Luckett. “It’s always a great opportunity to interact with the community in overseas ports to learn about them and for them to learn about us.”
The U.S. routinely demonstrates its commitment to allies and partners through forward presence and operations. Land’s deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations reflects the United States’ commitment to support theater security cooperation efforts in the Indo-Pacific region.
Guam is home to the U.S. Navy's only submarine tenders, USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) and USS Frank Cable (AS 40), as well as four Los Angeles-class attack submarines. The submarine tenders provide maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation. The submarines and tenders are maintained as part of the U.S. Navy's forward-deployed submarine force and are capable of meeting global operational requirements.
