Kristina Frith and Joshua Cavanaugh were recently honored as the October Employees of the Month by Col Marvin L. Griffin, commander, U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville. The duos efforts and professionalism typify the commitment to excellence in which Huntsville Center takes great pride.

Frith is credited for being instrumental in the continued ability of the Ordnance and Explosives (OE) Program at Huntsville Center to meet the mission requirements of a key customer, the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Dugway Proving Ground (DPG). DPG is responsible for the strategic mission of developing emerging threat test capabilities.

Frith’s award reads in part, “Through Kristina’s diligence, hard work, and expert understanding of the contracting process, a new Sole Source Single Award Task Order Contract (SATOC) was awarded in a very timely manner, and limiting the time the customer did not have coverage.”

The new contract allows DPG to provide support and construction capabilities for tasks and projects so that they can continue their development of new test facilities for emerging chemical and biological warfare threats crucial in the fight against terrorism.

Cavanaugh was honored for his critical role in the ongoing renovation and enhancement efforts at Huntsville Center’s new home at 475 Quality Circle. He was tasked with overseeing the award and installation of the audio/visual project.

The project included the installation of 3 portable speakers with microphones and 14 laser projectors including those installed within all the conference rooms. Cavanaugh’s leadership is credited with effectively leading a matrixed team to execute the contract through and after the award.

According to the nomination packet, through his dedication and team focus Cavanaugh, “…personally oversaw the contractor during the installation process. The upgrade of the audio/visual capabilities of the conference rooms enhances the visualization of the briefing and training presentation information.”

Huntsville Center is a unique U.S. Army Corps of Engineers organization. The Center is not defined by geographic boundaries; its missions provide specialized technical expertise, global engineering solutions, and cutting edge innovations through centrally managed programs in support of national interests.

Huntsville Center’s more than 1,000 employees manage nearly 3,000 ongoing projects at any given time. These projects fall into one of five portfolios: Medical, Facilities and Base Operations, Energy, Operational Technology, and Environmental. The portfolios comprise 42 different program areas, as well as six mandatory and six technical centers of expertise, and 17 centers of standardization. Projects are generally broad in scope, require technical expertise, centralized management or are functions not normally accomplished by a Headquarters, USACE organizational element.
