FORWARD OPERATING BASE DELARAM, Afghanistan — Col. Paul H. Maubert retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, April 30, at Forward Operating Base Delaram in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Maubert was serving as the officer in charge of the Marine Forces Central Command Coordination Office in Regional Command South.

The modest ceremony took place on the rooftop of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment combat operations center. It was presided over by Col. Duffy White, commanding officer of the Marine Corps Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Afghanistan (SPMAGTF-A), who is now the senior Marine in Afghanistan.

In his remarks, Maubert reminisced about and thanked the outstanding Marines who had been most influential in his career, from the World War II Marine who was his rifle coach at summer camp to the staff non-commissioned officers and officers who most influenced his command philosophy. He also talked about the many remarkable Marines who have shared his career. The ceremony was followed by a casual lunch.

Maubert achieved a 30-year career marked by extensive command from infantry and reconnaissance platoons as a lieutenant, to the 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company, the 2nd Battalion of the 25th Marine Regiment, the U.S. Group East Timor and East Fallujah Iraqi Camp. He also served four years with the Royal Marines Commandos (U.K.).

Present from SPMAGTF-A were White, Sgt. Maj. Paul McKenna, Lt. Col. Patrick Byron, and Chaplain Steve Unger; Lt. Col. David Odom and Sgt. Maj. David Bradford of 2nd Battalion of the 8th Marine Regiment; and Maj Brian Von Herbulis, commanding officer, Marine Special Operations Command, Company D.

Maubert's personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Commandant General Royal Marines Commendation, Joint Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), Meritorious Service Medal and Joint Meritorious Unit Award as commander of the U.S. Group East Timor.
