PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii. – Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Det Pearl Harbor recently reenlisted one of their Sailors above Maunawili Falls.
After a three-mile hike and enjoying breathtaking views, Electronics Technician 2nd Class Emily Braswell took an oath to continue serving her country.
“Becoming a Sailor and protecting my nation has helped shape me into the person I am today,” explained Braswell. “Therefore, I wanted my reenlistment to be special and a day I would always remember.”
Braswell, from Bossier City, La., enlisted in the Navy in 2013. Before CSCS, she served aboard USS San Antonio (LPD 17), homeported in Norfolk, Va. Due to her strong work ethic and can-do-attitude, Braswell was awarded Senior Bluejacket of the Quarter, Junior Sailor of the Quarter, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
She reported to CSCS Det Pearl Harbor in May 2019 as a 2M instructor. Braswell teaches miniature and microminiature repair and module test and repair. She also recertifies Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard personnel and Department of Defense (DoD) civilians, increasing the self-sustainability and operational readiness of the Navy and the DoD as a whole.
Her reenlistment was presided by Lt. Cmdr. Johnny Redford, CSCS Det Pearl Harbor’s officer-in-charge.
“Serving in Hawaii is a unique experience,” Redford said. “Any time you can provide your Sailors an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of this place, accomplish a solid work-out and reenlist a great Sailor like petty officer Braswell, you absolutely take it.”
After CSCS Det Pearl Harbor, Braswell hopes to be selected for the Officer Commissioning Program.
“This has truly been an amazing day and unforgettable milestone,” Braswell said. “I look forward to continuing my naval career and becoming an officer.”
CSCS' mission is to develop and deliver surface ship combat systems training to achieve surface warfare superiority. CSCS headquarters' staff oversees 14 learning sites and detachments, including CSCS Det Pearl Harbor, located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, and Japan and manages and operates a Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) training division in Rota, Spain. CSCS provides over 538 courses, awards 114 different Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs), and trains over 38,000 Sailors a year. CSCS delivers specialized training for Officer and Enlisted Sailors to tactically operate, maintain, and employ shipboard and shore-based weapons, sensors, and command and control systems utilized in today's Navy.
