FORT BRAGG, N.C. Sep. 21, 2019 – Soldiers, families and friends participated in the 5th Annual Fort Bragg Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Neon Night Run Sept. 21, 2019 on Fort Bragg, N.C
The event was open to all ages and MWR gifted the participants with complementary glow sticks and headbands.
The race stretched from Reilly road, looped around Butner road, and completed itself uphill through Gruber road.
Children could be seen running around with their families, and giggles and smiles could be heard and seen throughout the entire venue.
“This event brings Soldiers out here with their families and friends,” Keagan McDonald, the MWR race director explained. “It gives them something to do with their children. It’s something different from a normal 5K. It allows everyone to have a fun atmosphere as well as a good time.”
This is the only race event hosted by the MWR that takes place at night.
McDonald said that there were roughly 70 Soldiers, and nearly 100 MWR staff and volunteers working the event. Keagan said historically. roughly 3,000 participants attend the event.
Nearly four miles later and the run complete, the energetic youth who started the race were tired and restless. However, the atmosphere was still positive, especially for one excited runner.
“Keep on doing it!” said Monique Foley, an Army veteran who came back to the event for a second time, “We had a great time, and would love to come back.”
