NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2019) – Bull Run Recreation Area on the Cumberland River in Ashland City, Tenn., is scheduled to be permanently closed Oct. 31, 2019. The area is currently a city-operated park leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District.

The park encompasses 63 total acres of which four acres have been developed for day use recreation, including a boat ramp, gravel parking lot, picnic sites and a trail.

Ashland City is returning the site to pre-lease conditions and is closing the park with a physical barrier upon release of the park to the Corps of Engineers.

Boating and day use visitors have alternate locations for boat launching, and day use recreation in the immediate vicinity at Riverbluff Park and Cleeces Ferry, 6.5 and 11.1 miles away respectively.

The permanent closure of the Bull Run site requires the Corps of Engineers to supplement the Cheatham Lake Master Plan in order to reclassify the area from a high-density recreation area to a multiple resource management – future/inactive recreation area. The Corps seeks public comments through Oct. 21, 2019. Concerned citizens and agencies are encouraged to contact the Cheatham Lake Resource Manager’s Office at 615-792-5697 or at cheathamlake@usace.army.mil. It is Nashville District’s intent to finalize the Cheatham Lake Master Plan Supplement at the end of the comment period.
