KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Members from the 81st Security Forces Squadron set up around the Bayridge and West Falcon housing areas to pull over people speeding, here, September 10.
This is part of an effort to put action on the concerns that were brought up in July during the Keesler Housing Forums.
“I think it’s important to keep an open line of communication for things that people perceive as a problem,” said Maj. Matthew Lowe, 81st SFS commander. “It gives us an opportunity to view the problem and look at different ways of fixing it.”
Col. Heather Blackwell, 81st Training Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. David Pizzuto, 81st TRW command chief, also came out to support.
The 81st SFS has been focusing on making efforts to reduce speeding on base.
“Once it dies down we’ll try to get into a normal routine again,” said Lowe. “We’re taking the safety and security of the base very seriously.”
As speeders were pulled over, Lowe would run their license and registration and then the individual caught speeding would be surprised by Blackwell and Pizzuto with a message on why it’s important not to speed on base.
Lowe was thankful for Blackwell coming out and helping.
“She’s taking the complaints brought up by the residents seriously,” said Lowe. “She cares about the safety and security of the base and the families that live in the area.”
