CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea (Sept. 18, 2019) – Civilian employees of Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) were recognized as outstanding in their fields during a ceremony at Camp Humphreys, Sept. 18.

The United States Forces Korea Civilian Employee of the Year awards were presented to Pak Chong Tu, Commander, Navy Region Korea (CNRK) unaccompanied housing director (Manager of the Year); Tony Long, CFAC fitness director (U.S. Administrator of the Year); Pak Kyong Ho, CFAC chapel community outreach specialist (Korean Administrator of the Year); Shanna Blocher, CFAC fitness/recreation specialist (Customer Service Employee of the Year); and Kacee McKinnon, CFAC recreation specialist/lifeguard (Skilled Employee of the Year).

The ceremony took place at the Morning Calm Center aboard Camp Humphreys, which included a reception after the event.

"Throughout the last year, the civilian employees being recognized today have exceeded customer service expectations and have gone above and beyond to support our fleet, our families and our warfighters," said Cmdr. J.R. Ewing, CFAC base commander. "I'm extremely proud of their incredible achievements! They are the backbone of our base operations and services and we couldn't do it without them."

Army General Robert B. Abrams, commander, U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), spoke during the ceremony and emphasized the importance of Department of Defense civilians. “They often go above and beyond the scope of their duties,” he said. “This is required when we serve in a location that is at the forefront of 21st century global security.”

Abrams recognized the 17 total American and Korean professionals awarded across 11 categories for their accomplishments to the USFK mission. “They were nominated by their supervisors who are fortunate to get to work with them day in day out,” he said. “Our award recipients today have demonstrated excellence in the performance of their duties and they are a true example of service that matters. Congratulations to our awardees for a well-deserved award.“

More than 700,000 civilians work for the Department of Defense (DoD) in a variety of critical positions around the world. Many DoD civilian employees play key roles in the success of many exercises and operations in the United States, as well as in foreign partner nations.

Providing service and operational support to the fleet and strengthening the U.S.-ROK alliance, CFAC provides C4I, logistics, and personnel support through joint and combined armistice, exercise and contingency operations.
