The Phantom Warriors of USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) showed their willingness to compete and win in any venue during 2019’s Pacific Fleet Surface Line Week Aug. 12-23, placing third overall in their competitive category and earning recognition from Commander, Naval Surface Forces, at this year’s Surface Warrior Ball on Aug. 24.
Teams from the ship won championships in basketball, M4 marksmanship, and M9 marksmanship. Additionally, the ship placed second overall in the push-up and pull-up competition and third in the golf tournament.
Sailors from USS Paul Hamilton also dominated in individual events, as Gas Turbine Systems Technician Electrical Fireman Aubree Victor won the 50M butterfly swim, Gunner’s Mate 1st Class David Burger took home the “Top Shot” honor from the marksmanship competition, and Electronics Technician 2nd Class Ashley Sepulveda won the push-up/pull-up championship. Victor also placed second in the 100M freestyle swim, while Sepulveda placed third in powerlifting, and Sonar Technician Surface 3rd Class Joseph Maglione placed third in push-up/pull-up.
“I’m very proud of every Paul Hamilton Sailor that represented our great warship at Surface Line Week this season, but not surprised we showed well,” said Cmdr. Mark Lawrence, the ship’s captain. “Phantom Warriors are always looking to compete at the highest level and, whether individually or in small teams, signed up to win.”
